Business Customers buy one third of customized stamps – Zazzle

Online custom marketplace Zazzle recently reported that the ZazzleStamps brand of customized postage for business now comprises up to one third of Zazzle’s total customized postage orders since their launch in May 2006.

Zazzle, in partnership with Pitney Bowes, began producing ZazzleStamps in July 2005. ZazzleStamps are authentic U.S. postage and can be used to mail letters, postcards, or packages. ZazzleStamps are available for the most common U.S. mail rates.

According to the company, businesses are finding numerous ways to use their customized postage. The Montel Williams show ordered postage bearing the headshot of the renowned talk show host to adorn invitations to a party. CBS also turned to Zazzle for their postage needs when they passed out ZazzleStamps in NewYork City promoting their fall lineup and distributed stamps to a crowd visiting the CBS News’ “The Early Show.” The postage included four unique
designs, each one showcasing the image of a primetime star adorned with the
name of their series and the CBS logo.

Smaller businesses have also been among those adopting customized postage. “I work with our small family business, and we were thrilled when we learned about Zazzle’s customized postage. My son and I designed stamps with our pipe-themed business logo to send out to clients as a token of our appreciation,” said Doug Russell of family owned DSR Plumbing. “It’s great to have a unique way to market ourselves, and our customers are impressed by the extra touch.”

The widespread adoption of ZazzleStamps by businesses would suggest that product customization in general is moving away from ‘novelty’ status towards a central role in both consumer and business-to-business commerce. The focus on product customization in mainstream business media is has been gathering momentum steadily since the beginning of 2006 (see subsequent post).
