Tech Data U.S. Launches Online Configuration Tools for Whitebooks and Servers

2004-11-23 - Clearwater, FL, USA: Tech Data Corporation (NASDAQ:TECD), which provides IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, has launched two Web-based tools that enable resellers to build fully configured whitebooks and servers powered by Intel(R) processors. By utilizing these tools, resellers can add an array of compatible components such as memory, hard drives and DVD drives to dozens of barebones server chassis and unbranded laptops.

"System builders don't have to spend their time and resources researching each component for a range of compatibility issues. Tech Data's online configuration tools do the job for them, enabling resellers to build a server or laptop in a matter of minutes."

Featuring an intuitive, Web-based interface, the tools guide resellers step-by-step through the configuration process. The server tool enables resellers to start from the barebones chassis and motherboards, while the whitebook configuration offers several laptop models manufactured by AOpen and ASUS. After selecting the base unit to build on, resellers are presented with options such as processor speeds, memory, hard drives, disk drives, wireless capabilities, USB ports and power supplies.

After configuration is complete, resellers can have Tech Data integrate the components or receive the parts and build it themselves. For AOpen whitebooks, online video instructions can assist resellers in assembly. The configuration tools also enable resellers to select warranty options for each unit built, and Tech Data can add reseller branding before shipping directly to end users.

Tech Data's configuration tools are an extension of the distributor's comprehensive e-business capabilities that include XML functionality, live transaction processing, electronic data interchange and hosted Web stores.
